Charlie Ward appears to be the latest player to make the jump from the Houston Dynamo organization to San Antonio FC.
The English midfielder was waived by Houston Dynamo in May after appearing in 42 matches with RGV Toros FC and one match for Houston. Since the transaction seems to have opened up an international slot for Houston, it can be assumed Ward will occupy one of San Antonio’s international slots.
The move was spotted on the San Antonio FC subreddit by user /u/IcedMochaNoWhip, an RGV fan who is excited to see Ward together with former Houston-RGV teammates Escalante and Murphy. Ward’s wikipedia page has been updated to list San Antonio FC.
Ward is also listed on San Antonio FC’s roster on USL’s website [see update below].
The addition of another midfielder who is on the fringe of MLS play is only going to help San Antonio FC. Ward was signed to Houston from RGV in June 2017. The fact that he already has familiarity with Escalante and Murphy is an additional bonus.
Ward is the second SAFC player with ties to English club Stoke City, one of his youth clubs. Full back Bobby Moseley appeared in the Alamo City on loan from Stoke in 2016.
The move would bring the SAFC roster to 26.
Update 11:10am: As pointed out by @checkfamilyblog in the comments, Ward has been removed from SAFC’s roster on USLSoccer.com.
